Into the Badlands Season 3: Black Wind Howls [Spoilers]

A 'Black Wind Howls' through Into the Badlands this week. Spoilers ahead.

Bajie (Nick Frost) brings Sunny (Daniel Wu) to meet his old friend, by way of marketplace bazaar. I suppose we shouldn't be surprised at this point to find Bajie's friend at a hive of scum and villainy playing some sort of stabby Russian Roulette drinking game. The person crazy enough to play said game is Lily (Sophia Di Martino), who Bajie chivalrously tries to defend? Okay maybe not chivalrously but it's definitely in his self interest to keep her alive.

I FINALLY get my seafood weapons this episode, wish some creative eel slapping, urchin spiking, and the long awaited octopus nunchucks. I might have to stop watching the show after this, I'm not sure any other fight can live up to that prop. Bajie, Sunny, Henry, and Lily leave on a boat…. Where we also learn that Lily is Bajie's ex-wife. Based on their interaction I'm guessing this won't be a love boat.

Odessa (Maddison Jazani) tends Tilda's (Ally Ioannides) wounds from the previous episode's fight. She also has some strong words for Lydia (Orla Brady) about her plan to change the Badlands. Odessa is done with this rebellion, and asks Tilda to choose between her and her cause. Because ultimatums always go SO well.

Lily is a real ray of sunshine but in fairness is a business woman, who demands payment (not causes) for her navigation skills.

Pilgrim (Babou Ceesay) greets the refugees he stole, excuse me, liberated? From the camp, and tries to enlighten them to the ways of Azra.  They quickly seem to pick p what he's putting down, though it's not like they have a ton of choice. The random trench digging continues with their help.

Pilgrim is displeased with Cressida (Lorraine Toussaint) for sending, excuse me, encouraging Castor (Dean Charles-Chapman) to go on the raid. This is our first look at the differing styles between Pilgrim and Cressida, and it looks like they might not be as unified as originally expected.

Tilda returns to the decimated refugee camp to try to help.

Sunny worries if Lily can be trusted. He also has a vision of having been on Lily's boat before. We learn the boat belonged to the River King. It looks like the biggest thing that drove Bajie and Lily apart was Bajie's obsession with Azra.

Tilda confronts The Widow (Emily Beecham) to offer a truce. She offers to help take Chau's forces down, but this reunion won't be anything more than an alliance of necessity.

Castor wakes up the victim of some unwanted acupuncture. The Widow grills him on how Pilgrim controls his gift. Castor's answer "Azra." Nathaniel Moon (Sherman Augustus) suggests they send Pilgrim one of Castor's hands as a sign. Look Nathaniel, just cause someone took your hand doesn't mean you need to make it a thing.

Bajie and Lily catch up and look like they're going to fall into old habits. Sunny's flashbacks/visions continue on the boat. He finds a bit of graffiti he left right before something awful looks like it happened.

The Widow goes to showdown with Pilgrim and Cressida to negotiate. Tilda gets her first view of M.K (Aramis Knight) having switched sides and the betrayal is palpable. Cressida reminds The Widow that she too once had the dark gift. This certainly explains The Widow's obsession with it.

Looks like old habits die hard, as Lily sells out Sunny and Bajie to the River King (Lance Nichols). We get a glimpse of the fight we exclusively showed last week.

Looks like we now know Lily wasn't hiding from the other assailants, she was hiding from Sunny and Bajie. Heads literally roll during this fight, and Bajie nearly loses his at Lilys' hand. Sunny gets a smidge of sweet revenge in the form of a fishing harpoon. Unfortunately he can't complete the job, as he needs the River King for navigation.

The Castor, Nix (Ella-Rae Smith) , M.K triangle comes to a head but is also rudely interrupted by Pilgrim. We bid a farewell to Castor, whose time has apparently come. Pilgrim does the deed himself.

It looks like in 'Black Wind Howls' we learn that relationships we thought were unified might be a little more chaotic than we first thought. Loyalties seem to be shifting left and right. We're over ⅓ of the way into the season and it feels like nothing major has happened yet. I'm hoping for something revelatory in the next episode or so.
