On last night’s Full Frontal with Samantha Bee, Samantha Bee talked about Donald Trump‘s daughter Ivanka. In a piece about White House immigration policy, TBS broadcast Bee calling Ivanka Trump a “feckless cu[CENSOR BLEEP]t.”
The full piece looked at Ivanka’s decision to tweet an image of her and her child, as a perfect start to her morning, at a time when the media was full of stories about immigrants being separated from their children at US borders, sometimes for years.
“You know, Ivanka, that’s a beautiful photo of you and your child, but let me just say, one mother to another, ‘Do something about your dad’s immigration practices, you feckless c–t!’… He listens to you! Put on something something tight and low cut and tell your father to f–king stop it! Tell him it was an Obama thing, and see how it goes!”
This morning, the White House issued a statement from Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders saying:
“The language used by Samantha Bee last night is vile and vicious. The collective silence by the left and its media allies is appalling… Her disgusting comments and show are not fit for broadcast, and executives at Time Warner and TBS must demonstrate that such explicit profanity about female members of this administration will not be condoned on its network.”
Amid criticism from everyone from CNN’s John King to NBC’s Megyn Kelly, Samantha Bee posted an apology on Twitter.
I would like to sincerely apologize to Ivanka Trump and to my viewers for using an expletive on my show to describe her last night. It was inappropriate and inexcusable. I crossed a line, and I deeply regret it.
