Now that most of The CW series have wrapped up for the season, I’m going to go through and analyze the shows for various things like best individual issue, comparing big bads, main character arcs, etc. Kicking it off with best new character, taking a trip to Earth-38 for Supergirl.
There are quite a few new characters introduced in season 3 of Supergirl. You have Morgan Edge, who seemed like a strong character at first but has since vanished. Samantha Arias and her daughter Ruby are both good editions and major parts of the overall story for the season. But when it comes to the best character introduced this season, you have to take a look at the crew from the future. Amy Jackson’s Imra Arden, aka Saturn Girl, has been a very interesting take on the character and would’ve been a contender, but Jesse Rath’s Querl Dox, aka Brainiac 5, was a home run.
This would not be an easy character to play. It’s the closest thing we’ve had to Brent Spiner’s portrayal of Lt. Data on Star Trek: The Next Generation in years. He brings a lot of the intelligence of the character, with the social awkwardness that goes with that level of intelligence. He also seemed to have a bit of an ego and rivalry with Winn Schott. The character could’ve easily been stiff or one-note, but there were little things done along the way to make him even more interesting.
The character, along with Imra, has returned to the future but is supposed to return at some point over the next four episodes. So here’s hoping we’ll get more of him before it’s done. I wish we’d gotten to see a few more Legion members, but I think the show has done very well with the ones we did get to meet, in addition to advancing the character of Mon-El along quite a bit. It would be nice to see Brainiac 5 and more of the Legion return in season 4, now that the time travelling door is open.
