Today sees the publication of Invincible Iron Man #600. Bran Bendis‘ final comic for Marvel. And it’s a chance for departing writer Brian Bendis to tie up loads of his plots as quickly, leave others hanging, put his toys back in the box, and leave one or two gift wrapped for those who are to follow…
1. A New Replacement For SHIELD
As we noted in his previous Iron Man issue, and in his last Spider-Man issue, Brian Bendis is setting up a secret agent future for Miles Morales, following his father’s footsteps. At one point, Bendis suggested to Marvel that his new name could be SPY-D.
But this is a new science-based initiative by Leonardo Da Vinci that brings in Blade and Riri Williams as well.
Oh and yes, Tony might fancy joining too.
2. Oh Yeah, Rhodey’s Back.
Tony Stark, modern day Prometheus. And adding onto James Rhodes’ shoulders the knowledge that he’s been dead. What will Captain Marvel say? And where?
3. Tony’s Got A Brand New Dad
Brian already gave us a biological mother for Tony Stark, and now we get his biological father, presumed stabbed, but all Hydra’d up. That’s right folks, Tony Stark’s science-Nazi dad is still kicking. That’ll be a thing.
Worth also noting however that Stark has his company back, still has Mary Jane Watson on staff and has both Friday and Tony AI to play with.
4. Who’s Got Your Nose?
Doctor Doom may have reached the end of his run as Infamous Iron Man. He may be in destructive mode regarding Latveria. Butm after his final battle with The Hood – and whatever it was The Hood was, it looks like his face, reconstructed by Molecule Man, at the end of Secret Wars that kicked off the Infamous storyline, has been smashed apart again one more time… still, at least he’s going to be having a kid.
Yeah, that hasn’t gone away. Daddy Doom. Someone will have to deal with that… Slott and Pichelli over at Fantastic Four maybe? Dr Amara Perera has a long journey to go…
5. Tony Will Still Be The Sorcerer Supreme In 2099.
That future, seen in All-New X-Men, Generations and Infamous Iron Man keeps getting further and further set in stone. When will he start learning those mystical arts? And why did that Stark from the future contact Doom in the past? Why did he want to stop Doom from being Iron Man anymore? Will anyone bother with this one? Probably… but that was a really cheap way to deal with Tempus – statting three whole pages…
At least, from Generations, Riri Williams knows she has a future. And remember folks, we’ll always have Cambridge in London.
