Warner Bros. Asks Ryan Reynolds for Their Ring Back

Who says you can’t laugh at losing hundreds of millions of dollars? It turns out that Warner Bros. can. Back in 2011 Warner Bros. released a half-assed attempt to start their version of the Marvel Cinematic Universe with Green Lantern starring Ryan Reynolds. The movie was a critical and commercial bomb. The movie has a listed budget of $200 million, but there have been rumors that they spent much more than that. If you add in marketing, which is usually half of the listed budget, the movie needed to break around $300 million to start making a profit. It made $219 million and is sitting at an abysmal 26% on Rotten Tomatoes. The only good thing that came out of this disaster was Reynolds met his now wife Blake Lively on the set, and they are adorable.

Come 2016 and Ryan Reynolds is blowing up the domestic and international box office with Deadpool, which poked fun at the animated suit he needed to wear in Green Lantern. Two years later, and nearly seven years after the release of Green Lantern, it looks like Warner Bros. doesn’t have any grudges about how it all went down. If anything they seem to be admitting, through humor, that they screwed up big time.

Can we get a shot of Deadpool doing the Single Ladies dance now? Because that would awesome.

Summary(?): After surviving a near fatal bovine attack, a disfigured cafeteria chef (Wade Wilson) struggles to fulfill his dream of becoming Mayberry’s hottest bartender while also learning to cope with his lost sense of taste. Searching to regain his spice for life, as well as a flux capacitor, Wade must battle ninjas, the yakuza, and a pack of sexually aggressive canines, as he journeys around the world to discover the importance of family, friendship, and flavor – finding a new taste for adventure and earning the coveted coffee mug title of World’s Best Lover.

Deadpool 2, directed by David Leitch, stars Ryan Reynolds, Morena Baccarin, T.J. Miller, Josh Brolin, Brianna Hildebrand, and Zazie Beetz. It’s in theaters now.
