Solo: A Star Wars Story – Jonathan Kasdan Reveals Who [SPOILER] is Playing

About a week ago Mark Hamill revealed that someone was making an appearance in Solo: A Star Wars Story that we didn't know about. It's a very minor spoiler, but for those of you trying to stay completely spoiler free, it might be best to move on to another article.

VERY MINOR SPOILERS

Hamill revealed that Anthony Daniels would be in the movie, and fans assumed that meant that C-3PO would be making an appearance. This wasn't met with the best reaction, since shoehorning the droids into Rogue One took many viewers out of the movie. It turns out that we don't need to worry about the droids reminding us that this is a Star Wars movie, because during an interview with UPROXX co-writer Jonathan Kasdan confirmed who Daniels is playing.

"No, but Anthony Daniels is in the movie as a different character," says Kasdan. "In the Papillon type offshoot story, the Wookiee that helps them escape, Chewbacca's best friend, is played by Anthony Daniels – and beckons him to join them as they escape on a different ship."

We have seen brief snippets of the scene in question in the trailer, with some fans wondering that would be Chewbacca's wife making her first movie appearance. It turns out it isn't, and we can't call the Christmas Special canon (yet). UPROXX pointed out this is the first time the droids won't be making an appearance, and that makes it fundamentally different from other Star Wars movies. Kasdan said that was by design.

"There are a lot of things about this movie that are different from all the others."

So no C-3PO in this movie, which means there might not be any R2-D2 either. That is probably a good thing, since the mere presence of Han, Chewie, and Lando is one extended reference to the original movies. We don't really need any other reminders that this is a Star Wars movie.

Summary: During an adventure into a dark criminal underworld, Han Solo meets his future copilot Chewbacca and encounters Lando Calrissian years before joining the Rebellion.

Solo: A Star Wars Story, directed by Ron Howard, stars Alden Ehrenreich, Emilia Clarke, Donald Glover, Woody Harrelson, and Thandie Newton. It will be released May 25th.
