First Trailer for BlacKkKlansman Ends with a Very Familiar Rallying Cry

There is trying to be subtle and achieving it perfectly, and then there's throwing all concept of subtlety out the door and smacking your audience in the face with a two-by-four. It's the latter that director Spike Lee and producer Jordan Peele have gone with when it comes to their new movie BlacKkKlansman.

The movie is about the real life infiltration of the Ku Klux Klan by a black and white partner team of cops to stop an impending attack. We get to see Topher Grace as David Duke, but the movie ends with Grace, as Duke, cheering a room full of Klan members and saying "America First".

Like we said, this is two-by-four to the face levels of subtle. The trailer paints an all-too-familiar world but also has that level of dark humor you can expect from a Lee production. That final scene features two black waiters working that Klan rally and saying if they knew it was a rally they wouldn't have taken the job. This one looks promising, and maybe now people will learn that the "America first" slogan has some seriously negative propaganda behind it.

Here are so videos from the premiere at the Cannes Film Festival.

Ron Stallworth, an African-American police officer from Colorado, successfully managed to infiltrate the local Ku Klux Klan and became the head of the local chapter.

BlacKkKlansman, directed by Spike Lee, by Adam Driver, John David Washington, Topher Grace, Laura Harrier, and Ryan Eggold. It will be released on August 10th.
