Destiny 2’s Rasputin Cipher Led Players on Real-Life Adventure

Destiny 2 players found a sigil on the walls of Rasputin’s bunker on Mars shortly after the Warmind expansion went live, which looked like it led to an in-game reward. Players on the Destiny-focused Raid Secrets subreddit worked together in order to solve the puzzle.

However, it turns out that sigil was less a treasure map and more of a cipher. Once it was decoded, players were left with a message:

thank you for taking the time to piece together this message, friend. the time of our final conflict is drawing closer and you and ana have an important role to play in the events to come. so watch over her, guardian. i would have no life without ana or the exoprogram. i regret that we have become strangers, but we each have a path that we must walk. and, ironically, there never seems to be enough time. tell her, rasputin’s first attempt was in the right location, but the wrong moment. look here: 43.549573, -73.544868 – e

The coordinates at the end of that message lead to Sleeping Beauty Mountain near Lake George in upstate New York. Coincidentally, that mountain is 70 miles from Vicarious Visions’ studio in Menands.

Reddit user _I_love_science_ was the one to venture into the mountain in search of the treasure, which was contained in a tube marked with the Warmind symbol.

Inisde the tube was a life-sized replica of Warmind‘s Valkyrie Spear. However, the spear was not alone amidst the prize tube.

As IGN reports:

Also included was a container of unique gold coins, a journal, and a letter from Warmind design lead Rob Gallerani. “There are only 3 like it in the world,” wrote Gallerani of the Valkyrie. “The first sits at our studio, Vicarious Visions whom developed the Warmind expansion, the second sits at Bungie, our gift to them for letting us become part of their franchise, and the third now belong[s] to you.”

While the elaborate hunt had seemingly come to an end, letters discovered on the tip of the spear have led some to believe there’s more to be discovered. When asked by Reddit user Brucenous_Waynecous about the letters’ meaning, Vicarious Visions reportedly said, “I don’t know, what does it mean?”

So for now, it looks like this portion of the Warmind treasure hunt is finished. But there are enough clues to indicate that the hunt is still on.
