Moulin Rouge! The Musical Releases "Come What May" Music Video

Baz Luhrmann's 2001 technicolor musical feature film Moulin Rouge has been turned into a live stage musical, and we're pretty damn excited, to be honest.

The film featured several non-period popular songs like David Bowie's "Diamond Dogs", Nirvana's "Smells Like Teen Spirit", Queen's "The Show Must Go On", and several medleys. Stars Nicole Kidman and Ewan McGregor delighted audiences with their performances, it was like the average filmgoer had no idea they both had musical theater in their backgrounds.

Anyhow, Moulin Rouge has been turned into a stage show, one that is having it's trial run in Boston rather than Broadway.  This isn't anything new, really, as previous shows Anything Goes, Annie Get Your Gun, and Follies were first floated during "out of town engagements".

The cast is pretty promising, Aaron Tveit (Catch Me If You Can, Fox's Grease: Live) will be playing Christian the writer, McGregor's role. Tony Award winner Karen Olivo (In the Heights, West Side Story) is playing Satine the showgirl-courtesan, Kidman's role.

A music video was released today featuring Tveit performing "Come What May", one of the biggest songs from the film, and more than likely the musical too.

Six-time Tony nominee Danny Burstein will be playing Moulin Rouge manager Harold Zidler, Tony and Olivier nominee Sahr Ngaujah will be playing artist Toulouse-Lautrec, Tam Mutu will be playing the Duke of Monroth, Ricky Rojas will be playing Santiago the narcoleptic Argentinian (omg he finally has a name!), and Robyn Hurder will play Nini, one of the head Moulin Rouge dancers.

The musical's run starts at Boston's Emerson Colonial Theatre on June 27th, opening night is set for July 22nd, and an eventual transfer to Broadway is expected if all goes well.
