Battlefield 1 to Stop Monthly Update Cycle This Summer

With Battlefield 1's sequel set to be announced during EA's E3 press conference this year, the game's monthly updates are going to be coming to an end this summer according to EA DICE's content lead, Jonas Elfving. Elfving made the announcement on the Battlefield blog that the monthly content updates, tweaks, and bug fixes would continue on schedule until June 2018.

Elfving also described the new Shock Operations mode, which will drop in that same month. He described the mode as:

Bite-sized epicness is coming to Battlefield 1 in a new mode. Dubbed Shock Operations, the mode supports 40 players and sees attackers and defenders battling over sectors – just like in the fan-favorite Operations mode introduced to the franchise with Battlefield 1. Here, though, the action will be focused to one single map – ideal if you don't have time for a full Operations match.

With the update coming this summer, Shock Operations will be available on five maps: Giant's ShadowPrise de TahureLupkow PassZeebrugge, and River Somme. Most of these maps are normally only available to owners of Battlefield 1Premium Pass or standalone expansion packs. However, base game owners can access them too when playing Shock Operations.

Note that players who want full access to these maps across all modes, not just Shock Operations, will need a Battlefield 1Premium Pass or the corresponding standalone expansion packs.

In addition, the Rapture map from They Shall Not Pass is now available for all Battlefield 1 owners, and more maps will be released for free in the next month.

According to rumor, Battlefield 1's sequel will be set in World War II and go by the name of Battlefield V. News of the game leaked last month.
