Shane McMahon Hospitalized in Further Complications from Brutal Wrestling Attack

Two weeks ago, we told you about the injuries suffered by Shane McMahon following a brutal wrestling attack by Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn on WWE Smackdown Live. At the time, WWE medical staff had diagnosed McMahon with a laryngeal contusion as well as trapezius and rhomboid strains. However, according to a new report from WWE.com, McMahon’s injuries have become even more serious.

“Following the vicious assault, McMahon went to the Caribbean with his family to rest and recuperate,” WWE’s report reads. “While there, Shane developed a massive infection due to acute diverticulitis and was hospitalized for several days in Antigua before being flown back to a New York-area hospital, where he is currently being treated with heavy doses of antibiotics. The doctors in New York have also discovered that Shane suffered an umbilical hernia during the attack, which will require surgery once the infection has been eradicated.”

Diverticulitis is a painful condition consisting of inflamed and/or infected pouches in the colon, which is similar to the anal bleeding that our own Professor Thaddeus T. Puffinbottoms warned could be a common wrestling injury.

With McMahon hospitalized and requiring surgery, it’s unclear how he could compete in a rumored tag team match with Daniel Bryan against Owens and Zayn at WrestleMania in two weeks. However, considering the pair also attacked Daniel Bryan on last week’s episode of Smackdown Live after Bryan had just announced he was cleared to wrestle again, maybe it’s for the best that the entire match is simply called off.

We’ll find out more on tomorrow’s episode of Smackdown Live, we’re sure.
