Afraid to Face Original Host Steve in Wrestling Match, John Cena Will Not Be New Blue's Clues Host

Global entertainment superstar John Cena is not known for backing down from a challenge, but we can't see any other way to explain the most recent turn of events in Cena's quest to dominate the world of children's entertainment the same way he dominated the world of professional wrestling for over a decade.

As we reported last week, Cena was rumored to be up for the role of hosting a reboot of the popular Nickelodeon children's television show, Blue's Clues, about a trickster dog who concocts elaborate mind games to torture his master. A photo of Cena wearing the traditional costume of Blue's Clues' original host, Steve, onstage at a Nickelodeon event led many to speculate that Cena was auditioning for the role.

This week, word of Cena's designs on becoming the top guy of Blue's Clues got back to Steve himself, who told Hollywood dirt sheet TMZ in a shoot interview that he would like to face Cena in a wrestling match to decide who hosts the show.

"I like the idea personally that the host of Blue's Clues could be a regular looking guy," Steve said, throwing shade at Cena's larger-than-life physique. "I didn't look like Justin Bieber or anything like that. I was just kind of a normal, weird dude. I like the idea that the host of that show really could be your friend, really could be someone who you might meet and who isn't like a super buff professional wrestler."

"I think if John Cena is serious about hosting Blue's Clues, he and I should wrestle for it," Steve continued, laying out a challenge. "I'm calling you out, Cena. Right now."

But it looks like Cena didn't want any part of stepping into the ring with Steve, as following Steve's challenge, the Adweek reporter who posted the original photo of Cena auditioning for the show has now gone on the record as saying the whole thing was a big joke and that Cena was never seriously auditioning.

Of course, that gives Cena a convenient way out of facing Steve one-on-one, even though Nickelodeon's Twitter account, apparently run by Vince Russo, seemed to be trying to build toward a green striped polo on a poll match earlier in the week.

So it looks like we can forget about Cena hosting Blue's Clues, as it's obvious he doesn't have the testicular fortitude to take on the show's original host. We suppose "Never Give Up" is just a catchy slogan to print on your promotional towels (side note: who buys promotional towels?). Hopefully, a new challenger will step up to defeat Steve and claim the Blue's Clues title for their own.
