Wolverine to Have a Gay Clone? (Marvel Update)…

No this is not clickbait. Clickbait suggests that a salacious or sensationalist headline is used to get traffic to an article that doesn’t follow up on what the headline suggests. But in this case, it utterly does.

The Marvel comics character Gabrielle Kinney, better known now as Honey Badger, is one of ten female clones of Wolverine, the youngest of the Sisters, created by Alchemax Genetics, a division of Alchemax, appearing in Marvel Comics titles.

The girls were created and trained to serve as bodyguards for humanitarian missions and other personnel but were often abused by their handlers. With six of her sisters dead, Gabrielle escaped.

Appearing alongside another Wolverine clone, Laura Kinney, X-23 in All-New Wolverine, her first appearance in #2 in 2016, she recently gained the superhero identity of Honey Badger, and has become a cast member of X-Men Red.

And I get the nod that she may be defined as a new gay character for the Marvel Universe. There may have been this hint in X-Men Red #2 written by Tom Taylor

…or more on the nose a little later…

…but I am expected to see something more obvious either in the next issue of All-New Wolverine tomorrow – or the one after that…

UPDATE: After publication, Marvel got in touch to clarify that this is not an issue at the moment. Something discussed, they do confirm, but that no decision has been made. That she’s a new, young character and that there’s still a lot left to explore with her, by Tom and by other writers. And that, right now, someone might have been jumping the gun by getting in touch with Bleeding Cool about the matter…
