Black Lightning Season 1: Big Time Spoilers in New Promo Trailer

It would seem kind of strange if a television series would just give away big upcoming moments in a trailer, but that is exactly what the CW has done with their new hit series Black Lightning. The series, based on the DC Comic Character created by Tony Isabella and Trevor Von Eeden, tells the story of Jefferson Pierce (Cress Williams) a high school principal and retired costumed vigilante. After nine years off the streets, his daughters get in trouble and he suits up again to save them… then finds that the rest of Freeland needs Black Lightning as well. In the comics, Jefferson has two daughters who also become superheroes and the series is following suit. Anissa (Nafessa Williams) becomes Thunder and Jennifer (China Ann McClain) becomes Lightning. We've seen Anissa with her powers of super-strength and invulnerability, she's put on a costume a few times and even took on Black Lightning, which lead to her finding out about her father and to their friend Gambi (James Remar) starting to make a super suit for her as well.

There have been no, overt signs of Jennifer's powers as of yet. She moved fast enough to take out two girls who wanted to fight her, but that didn't look to be super speed or anything. And there has been some question on whether we'd get to her powers in season one or if she'd find out about her father's alter ego yet. The new trailer answers both questions, showing an incident of Jennifer using her powers and the moment that Alissa tells Jennifer about their dad. This seems like something the should've saved for the show.

Black Lightning airs Tuesdays at 9 PM on the CW.
