Konami's Metal Gear Survive has taken Monster Hunter: World off the top of  Sony Japan's digital game sales listings, which is a pretty startling upset considering the Western world's reaction to MGS. Of course, these sales just refer to Sony's digital sales and do not reflect the total market score for either game.

That said, for the week of February 19th-February 25th, the top seller was Metal Gear.

The full ranking is as follows:

  1. Metal Gear Survive
  2. Monster Hunter: World
  3. Girl Und Panzer Dream Tank Match
  4. NieR: Automata
  5. Senran Kagura Burst Re:Newal
  6. Mirror's Edge Catalyst
  7. Secret of Mana
  8. Battlefield 1 Revolution
  9. Dynasty Warriors 9
  10. Yonder: The Cloud Catcher Chronicles
  11. Undertale
  12. Sword Art Online: Fatal Bullet
  13. Minecraft: PlayStation 4 Edition
  14. Need for Speed Payback
  15. ABZU
  16. Shadow of the Colossus
  17. Dragon Ball FighterZ
  18. Overwatch Game of the Year Edition
  19. FIFA 18
  20. Dragon Quest III

Monster Hunter's month-long uncontested digital domination was fantastic news for Capcom, but eventually Monster Hunter's reign did need to come to an end. However, when it comes to physical sales, Monster Hunter still out-performed Metal Gear. Likely, the quick multiplayer nature of MGS allowed the title to do better on digital markets than the epic monster slaying RPG. At least for launch week.

Girl Und Panzer Dream Tank Match did well during its launch week as well. NieR: Automata came in fourth thanks to a 50% discount enacted to celebrate the game's first anniversary.

A few other older titles made it up on the rankings thanks to recent sales.

Today's results at least mark a bright spot for Konami, which the company sorely needs after the turmoil of the last few years.
