Jimmy Fallon, Paul Rudd, and the 5-Minute Tonight Show

Have you ever thought you'd probably like the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon more if it was only five minutes long? Now you can test that theory, as last night they aired a five-minute version of the iconic late night show.

The bit had the opening theme, then Jimmy Fallon comes out and tells two or three jokes that included clips of singer Fergie doing the national anthem at the NBA All-Star Game and then showed the Olympic skater who performed to the theme from Game of Thrones. After the shortened monologue, he moved over to his desk and out came One-Minute Interview guest Paul Rudd, who answered a few quick questions including talking about his new movie Mute and a tiny clip. Then the two sang part of the song Shout before calling it a night.

Five-Minute Tonight Show

I'm not sure why this particular thing was done. Maybe they knew they'd only have a few minutes during the Olympics, but it's not a horrible idea if they took it a tiny bit more seriously and made it a web series. Get people who mostly watch YouTube to get hooked on it and then they might move on to watching the full show. I know I'd be more likely to watch a five-minute show during the day than committing an hour at 11:35 p.m.
