Aniplex Releases The First Trailer For The Persona 5 Anime

Get your dancing shoes on and be ready to dawn your mask, as Aniplex released a trailer over the weekend to give people their first glimpse of the Persona 5 anime coming this April in Japan. While seeing something concrete for the JRPG-based series is awesome, it should be noted that a lot of the footage you're about to see is actually stuff you've seen in the game. In fact, while our memory of the game may not be totally 100% after beating it months ago, we're almost certain that everything you see here is from cutscenes you see in the game. Which is a bit of a letdown if that's the case because it would have been nice to get new footage from Aniplex beyond what we've already been exposed to. Below is the full trailer along with a description of the series.

Ren Amamiya is about to enter his second year after transferring to Shujin Academy in Tokyo. Following a particular incident, his Persona awakens, and together with his friends they form the "Phantom Thieves of Hearts" to reform hearts of corrupt adults by stealing the source of their distorted desires. Meanwhile, bizarre and inexplicable crimes have been popping up one after another… Living an ordinary high school life in Tokyo during the day, the group maneuvers the metropolitan city as Phantom Thieves after hours. Let the curtain rise for this grand, picaresque story!
