Metropolis to Begin Filming in New York City this Summer

MetropolisIn the DC Universe, Metropolis has been a stand-in for New York City, and according to OmegaUnderground, it will be again starting this summer. The report says that the new 13-episode straight to series project for DC's untitled streaming service, Metropolis, will be filming in New York City from June to December 2018. That would appear to be long enough to film the first season and would be a better fit for the crowded city skyline of Superman's home turf than the Canadian cities that are used in the Arrowverse.

The new series is said to be set in the so-called City of Tomorrow before the arrival of Superman. Metropolis will follow Lois Lane and Lex Luthor as they investigate the world of fringe science and expose the city's dark and bizarre secretes.

The series was originally planned as sort of a spinoff of Gotham and will be directed by Danny Cannon. The pilot is being written by John Stephens. There have been no casting announcements as of yet, but with a lot of actors being grabbed for pilots right now and summer fast approaching, they'll have to move fast. Also there has been no word if this series will be in a shared universe with any of the existing live-action series. Gotham, of course, being the obvious choice with Cannon's involvement.

Metropolis joins Titans as the two live-action series that have been announced for the DC streaming service. Titans is already filming. The service will also host a new animated series based on Harley Quinn and the return of the fan-favorite animated series Young Justice.
