EA Officially Confirm That Anthem Has Been Delayed Into Early 2019

Publisher EA has confirmed that Bioware's upcoming Anthem has seen a delay into 2019.

Last week, we got word via Kotaku that it was likely that Bioware's newest IP was getting delayed into 2019 as the game had been having a little trouble coming together as fast as it needed to. It wasn't in peril, rather that there was a lot of work that needed to be done, meaning its 2018 release goal was ambitious. It seems that report was correct too.

EA has now come out and officially confirmed that the game was seeing a push into next year. In comments to the Wall Street Journal, it refuted that the delay was coming because production was behind schedule, but rather that there is a Battlefield game out in October and they wanted the title to breathe a little more. In a rather bizarre statement, EA finance chief Blake Jorgensen said:

It's not a delay. People are trying to create a story.

I mean, it's a weird claim as the game is coming out later than originally planned, which is usually what we call a delay…

Honestly, this isn't all that surprising in the grand scheme of things. We see lots of games pushed from the holiday quarter of a year into the first of the next, so this isn't all that weird. Also, Anthem's a new IP and seen as a somewhat make or break title for Bioware. They could definitely use all the time they can get to make sure the game lands without a hitch. Both EA and Bioware need that.
