With Final Fantasy XIV down for a 24-hour maintenance period as Patch 4.2 readies to launch, we finally have the full patch notes. And damn, are these a doozy. To save you extensive reading on the Lodestone, we’ve got the highlights for you.
First up is Housing. FFXIV has something of a housing crisis with fewer available plots than there are players by a ridiculous degree. Before Patch 4.2, there were 12 housing wards in each of the four housing districts, each with 60 plots of land, meaning that each server had space for 2,880 houses. When you consider that this is a game with over 10 million registered players over the game’s servers, that’s less housing than players. In 4.2 we’re getting six new wards in each district, each with 60 plots of land, bringing the total to 4,320 houses per server.
Housing will also be prioritized for Free Companies (player guilds) that do not currently have houses, as housing space is ideal for Free Companies. They’re honestly almost a requirement. The full list of new housing rules is below:
- Plots designated for free company use will be limited to purchase by free companies with at least four members.
- Individuals will be restricted from purchasing plots for personal use for a limited time.
* Following the release of 4.2, we will evaluate the housing market and decide when to remove the restriction on sales to individuals.
* Players may still relocate private estates.
- Players will be permitted to own only one private and one free company estate per World per service account.
* Players may still relocate any private or free company estates they presently own.
- To discourage the resale of plots, any plots relinquished by owners will be unavailable for purchase for a limited time.
* During this period, said plots will still be available for relocation.
You’ll also be able to teleport directly to a friend’s house, friend’s free company house, or apartment.
We’re also getting some new furnishings including a bathtub and a shrub in the shape of the acronym “FFXIV“, because we all needed to be reminded of what game we were playing.
And then there come the balance changes. Many players were concerned about the balance changes as we knew very, very little about them until now. What we did know was that warriors were getting a buff while paladins were getting nerfed. Meanwhile, dark knights were just sitting there hoping they’d be useful again and saw two very small buffs. However, it seems that the developers have decided that 2018 is the year of the warrior and all other tank classes can just go home.
Paladins had seen an increase in their dps capabilities with 4.0 and 4.1, but Holy Spirit’s nerf is a huge blow to the class. They’re back to being damage mitigation and ally support. Dark knights have been a but lost since 4.0, and that seems to continue being the case. Meanwhile, the buffs to warrior make the job the second-most survivable and the best at damaging in both tank and dps stances now. Honestly, as pleased as I am with the buffs as a warrior main, I feel like we could have done without at least half of these buffs. I mean, did we really to increase the potency of Fell Cleave?
Meanwhile on the DPS side, monks got a decent bit of buffing, mechanists saw some debuffs, and black mages got a significant damage boost to Fire IV. In the world of healing, white mages no longer need lilies to use Divine Benison which will be helpful with high-end duties. Scholars are also getting a slight change to Excogitation.
And in other combat balance news, changes to initial elemental resistances based on a character’s selected patron deity have also been removed. Because they really didn’t do much once you got to end-game.
