Silver Sprocket Says "Alt-Right Bros" Got Ben Passmore's 'Your Black Friend' Banned from Facebook

Earlier this week, publisher Silver Sprocket unveiled an animated short film based on Ben Passmore's Eisner-nominated and Ignatz-winning comic of the same name, Your Black Friend. The video is funny and informative, and certainly not worthy of being banned from social media, but apparently it violates Facebook's community guidelines. Here's the comic's official description:

Ben Passmore's necessary contribution to the dialogue around race in the United States, Your Black Friend is a letter from your black friend to you about race, racism, friendship and alienation.

The video, just 3 minutes and 20 seconds long, accrued over 130,000 views before Facebook removed it, citing a policy of removing posts that "attack people based on their race, ethnicity, national origin, religious affiliation, sexual orientation, gender or disability."

Silver Sprocket posted on Twitter:

Narrated by Passmore, with animation by Krystal Downs and Alex Krokus, "help" by Stephen Duffy, and sound by James Deangelis, the video is a perfect teaser for the upcoming Your Black Friend and Other Strangers, an upcoming book that collects Your Black Friend as well as other comics by Passmore. That book hits stores on February 28. And you can watch the Your Black Friend animated short below:

In Your Black Friend and Other Strangers, Ben Passmore masterfully tackles comics about race, gentrification, the prison system, online dating, gross punks, bad street art, kung fu movie references, beating up God, and lots of other grown-up stuff with refreshing doses of humor and lived relatability. The title comic earned Passmore a much deserved Eisner nomination, Ignatz Award for "Outstanding Comic", and a coveted spot on NPR's 100 Favorite Graphic Novels list.

The comics in this 120-page collection include works previously published by The Nib, VICE, and the As You Were anthology, along with brand new and unreleased material.

These comics are essential, humorous, and accessible, told through Passmore's surreal lens in the vibrant full-color hues of New Orleans.
