Ubisoft Fails to Explain Rainbow Six Siege Price Increase

rainbow six: siege

Ubisoft announced some significant changes to the ways players can purchase Rainbow Six Siege yesterday, which essentially ended in a major price increase for the game from $40 to $60 USD. And now we get a little bit of a reason why, but it isn't all that helpful.

Effective February 13, 2018, Rainbow Six's $40 Standard Edition will be replaced by a $60 Advanced Edition, which comes with everything included in the Standard Edition, along with 600 Rainbow Six Credits and 10 Outbreak Collection packs, which contain cosmetics from the upcoming Outbreak event.

The Gold Edition, meanwhile, will jump from $70 to $90. It contains all content from the Advanced Edition plus the year three content season pass. Additionally, the $110 Complete Edition will jump to $130. It contains all content from the Gold Edition plus 16 bonus operators from the year one and year two content. Ubisoft clarified the Gold Edition shift in a tweet, stating "people who purchased the Year 2 Complete Edition will get what was listed at the time of purchase," which doesn't include the 600 bonus credits, the 10 Outbreak Packs or the year three season pass.

Ubisoft's explanations and clarifications about the price increase remain very opaque. It almost seems tone-deaf considering the anti-loot box sentiments in the current gaming community to add them to both Rainbow Six and Wildlands. Plus increasing the base edition of the game for very, very little reason is insulting. Honestly, these recent moves by Ubisoft seem to intentionally alienate their fan-base and recent good-will.
