Sqaure Enix is Adding Even More Changes to Final Fantasy XIV Patch 4.2

Sqaure Enix is Adding Even More Changes to Final Fantasy XIV Patch 4.2

Patch 4.2 still isn't here, but we've gotten so many updates to what exactly will be coming with the patch that it's bordering on ridiculous. We're getting changes to the glamour system, new dungeons, msq quests, new raids, new mounts, free company submarines, but today we found out even more of what to expect in Final Fantasy XIV version 4.2 based on updates to the Lodestone and the Patch 4.2 mini-site.

With so much new content, the patch will be accompanied by a 24-hour maintenance period from Jan. 29, 2018 2:00 a.m. to Jan. 30, 2018 2:00 a.m. (PST).

One of the big changes is going to come with all the new gear. We'll be getting weapons and gear from Hell's Lid, and Fractal Continuum (Hard), as well as new gear obtainable through the Tomestones of Mendacity, new gear from the Omega Sigmascape raid, and new crafting recipes for high-level gear.

Speaking of the new dungeons and trial, we got screenshots for those back in December, but we got a few more Sigmascape screenshots today. Currently the primary fan theory on Sigmascape is that it will feature villains from Final Fantasy VI, as the Deltascape raid featured enemies from Final Fantasy V including Halicanarssus and Exdeath. Which means Kefka. The new screenshots are remarkably clown-free, but that doesn't mean we're saved. The trailer was a pretty big clue that something brightly colored and nightmarish is on our way, which can only mean Kefka.

We've also got some new mounts and minions coming. The first mount below is the Kamuy from The Jade Stoa trial which will be obtainable from the Extreme version of the trial. The second is a Magitek Claw, which will apparently be able to fly you around. Lastly, we've got the True Griffin mount coming. And the new minions are pretty darn cute. We've got a white tiger cub and a blond ferret, which will either be obtainable through Exploration Ventures or by crafting.

We're also getting updates to the Bard Performance Actions to make things run smoother whether you're using a keyboard and mouse or a gamepad, jamming to your favorite game themes by harp will be even easier. Yes, Patch 4.2 is officially Final Fantasy XIV: Rock Band Edition but let's not file any copyright claims, yeah?

As for that housing problem, well, the fix appears to have been pushed to February. New housing areas will roll out a week after 4.2's launch. Housing Demolition will finally kick back in now that the majority of players in the US and Caribbean have recovered from last year's atrocious barrage of hurricanes.

But we are getting our FC submarines, and yes, they will be able to take us on underwater exploration missions.

There are also new hairstyles and emotes coming. Sadly, you still can't have dreads on any character race. I know, surprise surprise, a JRPG is low-key racist.

We're still waiting for more information on the Even Further Hildibrand Adventures quests and the Forbidden Land, Eureka Anemos.

And in case you haven't seen the trailer just yet, here's the official Patch 4.2 trailer.
