Snowpiercer showrunner Josh Friedman is getting off at the next station. Variety reported exclusively that Friedman and TNT have parted ways from the series, with sources close to the situation citing "creative differences" as the cause for the split. Friedman wrote the pilot script and served as an executive producer on the project, which was filmed in 2017. TNT ordered Snowpiercer to series earlier this month, and the network has yet to announce Friedman's replacement.

Based on the 2014 Bong Joon Ho film, the series takes place seven years after the world has become a frozen wasteland and centers on a small band of people who inhabit a gigantic, perpetually moving train that circles the globe. Jennifer Connelly stars as Melanie Cavill, an important first-class passenger and leader who is fascinated by the less fortunate riders on the train. The Snowpiercer cast also includes Daveed Diggs, Mickey Sumner, Susan Park, Benjamin Haigh, Sasha Frolova, Katie McGuinness, Alison Wright, Annalise Basso, Sam Otto, Roberto Urbina, Sheila Vand and Lena Hall.

Though his film credits include Avatar 2 and War of the Worlds, Freidman isn't new to adapting diverse genre properties for television. From 2008-2009, he served as showrunner for Terminator: The Sarah Conner Chronicles, Fox's spinoff of the James Cameron sci-fi film franchise; and in 2017, he served as executive producer of NBC's The Wizard of Oz re-imagining, Emerald City.

Snowpiercer is a co-production of Tomorrow Studios and Turner's Studio T, along with CJ Entertainment. Scott Derrickson (Doctor Strange, Sinister) directed the pilot, with the series is executive produced by Tomorrow Studios' Marty Adelstein and Becky Clements. Bong Joon Ho, Park Chan-wook, Lee Tae-hun and Dooho Choi also serve as executive producers on the series.
