Charles Soule's The Oracle Year is Coming to Television After Bidding War

Charles Soule is a superstar comic book writer who, if only for a brief time (and even if he's playing a role in bringing the runt back), successfully killed Wolverine. He's also a lawyer, so when people accuse him of not having a real job, he can say, "well actually…" without needing to convince them making funny books is a legitimate occupation. And if all of that hasn't made you jealous enough, he's now also a television executive producer on a show adapted from one of his novels. Oh yeah, he's a novelist too.

We get it, Charles Soule. Everything you touch turns to gold!

The Oracle Year is the upcoming first novel by Soule that's not out until April, but it's already been picked up for a television adaptation by Tomorrow Studios and ITV Studios, according to a report from punctuality-obsessed Hollywood gossip site Deadline. In his newsletter, Soule brags:

This is a big one. My first novel, The Oracle Year, coming out in hardcover April 3, 2018 from the Harper Perennial imprint of HarperCollins…

…is coming to TV! Tomorrow Studios, the production house behind Good Behavior, the upcoming Snowpiercer adaptation and more, acquired the television rights for the novel after a bidding war between a number of studios out Hollywood-way. It was incredibly exciting for me (duh), and it's still hard to believe this thing that was just sitting in my head for so long is going to get out into the world in such a big way soon.

Also in his newsletter, Soule reveals that he also plans to launch yet another career as a psychic.

As a thank you for anyone who goes that extra mile, I've set up a fun bonus for those amazing people who pre-order the novel – I'll mail you a custom, handwritten prediction of the future.

Here's the description of the book, so you can see what The Oracle Year is all about:

From bestselling comic-book franchise writer Charles Soule comes a clever and witty first novel of a twentysomething New Yorker who wakes up one morning with the power to predict the future—perfect for fans of Joe Hill and Brad Meltzer, or books like This Book Is Full of Spiders and Welcome to Night Vale..

Knowledge is power. So when an unassuming Manhattan bassist named Will Dando awakens from a dream one morning with 108 predictions about the future in his head, he rapidly finds himself the most powerful man in the world. Protecting his anonymity by calling himself the Oracle, he sets up a heavily guarded Web site with the help of his friend Hamza to announce his revelations. In no time, global corporations are offering him millions for exclusive access, eager to profit from his prophecies.

He's also making a lot of high-powered enemies, from the President of the United States and a nationally prominent televangelist to a warlord with a nuclear missile and an assassin grandmother. Legions of cyber spies are unleashed to hack the Site—as it's come to be called—and the best manhunters money can buy are deployed not only to unmask the Oracle but to take him out of the game entirely. With only a handful of people he can trust—including a beautiful journalist—it's all Will can do just to survive, elude exposure, and protect those he loves long enough to use his knowledge to save the world.

Delivering fast-paced adventure on a global scale as well as sharp-witted satire on our concepts of power and faith, Marvel writer Charles Soule's audacious debut novel takes readers on a rollicking ride where it's impossible to predict what will happen next.

Charles Soule is a New York Times bestselling, Brooklyn-based comic book writer, musician, and attorney. He is best known for writing Daredevil, She-Hulk, Death of Wolverine and various Star Wars comics from Marvel Comics, as well as his creator-owned series Curse Words from Image Comics and the award-winning political sci-fi epic Letter 44 from Oni Press.

Wait a minute. A musician too?! Is there anything Charles Soule can't do? You can find out how to buy The Oracle Year here if you don't want to wait for it to hit television.
