Supergirl Season 3: Mon-El is Back in Black in New Promo Image

Yesterday we showed a screen grab and a close up of the Legion of Superheros ring, but today the CW has released an image of Mon-El (Chris Wood) in his new costume/uniform. This is an early look of what we'll see of him when Supergirl returns next Monday with an episode called Legion of Superheroes, written by Derek Simon and Eric Carrasco and directed by Jesse Warn.

Fans of the series and comics have been waiting for him to suit up since he was introduced last season. What we see below is very different than his mostly read costume with blue cape that we see in the pages of DC Comics. As I mentioned yesterday, it seems the Legion has gone to the Bryan Singer everyone-in-black-leather school of fashion, but you can just make out the red stitching on the leather jacket and the two gold accents on his chest are meant to remind us of the gold cape clasps the comic version wears. He also has the sleeves with the material that goes over the palm like Supergirl has on her costume.

When the show returns, Supergirl (Melissa Benoist) is in a coma from the betting she received from Reign (Odette Annable). Mon-El recuits the aid of another Legion member, Brainiac 5 (Jesse Rath) to try and bring her back. Meanwhile, Reign is still reeking havoc on National City and the DEO teams up with the Legion to try to stop her.

Supergirl returns Monday, January 15th at 8 p.m. ET on the CW.
