Glamour Magazine Names Former CNN EP as New Editor-in-Chief

2017 saw a rise of journalism in fashion-focused periodicals, like Teen Vogue launching to the forefront with their socio-political features and articles. Expect that trend to continue in 2018, as Glamour Magazine (US publication) just named former CNN Executive Producer Samantha Barry to their vacant editor-in-chief position.

Glamour Magazine Names Former CNN EP as New Editor-in-Chief

Barry was an EP for social and emerging media for the cable news network, leading CNN's social teams for all of the network's bureaus.  Her teams worked in publishing, news-gathering, digital and TV, CNN says. It's worth noting that during Barry's time there, the company received an Edward R. Murrow Award for excellence in social media for their coverage of the 2016 election.

About joining the Condé Nast publication, Barry said in a statement:

"I am as humbled by Glamour's past as I am excited about Glamour's future. I could not be more proud to take the reigns of an iconic women's brand at this pivotal moment for all women's voices."

Condé Nast artistic director and Vogue editor Anna Wintour said:

"Sam is Glamour's first digital-native editor which is to say she arrives from the future rather than the past. Sam understands social media as a tool for storytelling and reporting; a way to support social conversation and the ever-changing contours of what's cool. Sam is fearless like so many leaders of the moment and has both a reverence for Glamour's history and a crystal clear view of its future in the digital environment."

It will certainly be interesting to see how someone with a hard news background influences the style and content of stories in the magazine.

Bleeding Cool News Editor Mary Anne Butler (Mab, for short) has been part of the fast-paced world of journalism since she was 15, getting her start in album reviews and live concert coverage for a nationally published (print) music magazine. She eventually transitioned to online media, writing for such sites as UGO/IGN, ComicsOnline, Geek Magazine, Ace of Geeks, Aggressive Comix (where she is still Editor-in-Chief), and most recently Bleeding Cool.

Over the past 10 years, she’s built a presence at conventions across the globe as a cosplayer (occasionally), photographer (constantly), panelist and moderator (mostly), and reporter (always).

Interviews, reviews, observations, breaking news, and objective reporting are the name of the game for the founder of Harkonnen Knife Fight, a Dune-themed band with an international presence.

Though she be but little, she is fierce. #MabTheProfessional
