Bryan Singer Could Lose His Executive Producer Credit on Season 2 of The Gifted

As Bleeding Cool told you earlier today, Fox's X-Men drama The Gifted had been renewed for a second season after scoring respectable ratings and being relatively well-liked by critics in its debut season. Eagle-eyed readers might have noticed that Bryan Singer was listed in the press release announcing the renewal. Singer has an executive producer credit on the series after helping to launch it by directing the pilot.

However, Singer has been in headlines for not-so-favorable reasons lately. First, Singer was fired as director of the Freddie Mercury biopic, Bohemian Rhapsody, amid reports of drama on-set. Shortly after that, Singer's production company moved off the Fox lot, and soon after that, Singer was accused of sexually assaulting a 17-year-old boy. Singer has countered that Fox fired him for caring for a sick parent, and he has completely denied the sexual assault allegations.

Now, it looks like Singer could lose his EP credit on Season 2 of The Gifted, which is, according to Fox Entertainment President Michael Thorn, "under review."

"As part of his deal for directing the pilot, he is an executive producer on the series," Thorn told schedule-themed Hollywood gossip blog Deadline. before distancing the show from Singer. "Truthfully, after he shot the pilot, he went and did a movie and had little to no involvement day-to-day in Season 1."

"But we take all that allegations very seriously, and we're looking into it for Season 2," Thorn continued. "Right now we have a lot of time before it premieres, and we continue to have discussions about it."

Maybe they're waiting to see how the case pans out, or maybe they figure this will be Disney's problem if they can just hold out long enough. As they say though, there are at least another 9 months before the second season will premiere, and a lot can change in that time. We'll let you know what happens.
