On the 29th December, the Facebook site for comic book store and gallery Pop Culture Utopia of Des Moines, Iowa, saw store owner Andrew J. Thimmesch post the sudden news that the store was closing. And that their last day would be…. the day before that.

I would like to 1st THANK & 2nd APOLOGIZE to each & every one of our customers. It is you guys that made Pop Culture Utopia the great place it has been for the last year and a half. My biggest regret is that I will miss seeing, on a regular basis, all the good friends that I have made since we have opened. It was fun while it lasted! Again, a HEART FELT THANK YOU to all!
They’d only been open a little over a year, No more details were forthcoming, save for responses of loss and regret from customers. And a change of business hours…
…updated to read “permanently closed”. Which is basically as final as it gets.
