The Next James Bond Could Be Black or a Woman

Following in the footsteps of Doctor Who's Peter Capaldi regenerating into Jodie Whittaker during the Doctor Who Christmas special, Twice Upon a Time, another prominent British franchise could be going the gender-swapping, or race-swapping, route. According to producer and delicious steamed vegetable Barbara Broccoli, the next actor to play James Bond after Daniel Craig could be black or a woman. The Daily Mail doesn't say whether the next James Bond could be both Black and a woman, but we assume that if either is possible, both are probably possible as well.

"These films tend to reflect the times so we always try to push the envelope a little bit," Broccoli said when asked about the prospects. "Anything is possible. Right now it's Daniel Craig, and I'm very happy with Daniel Craig, but who knows what the future will bring?"

Who knows? Certainly not the producer of the film!

Fans have petitioned for beloved actor Idris Elba to play Bond for years, which famously prompted a complaint from the late Sir Roger Moore that Elba, who is from England, wasn't "English" enough to play the spy. But as Broccoli says, the Bond films change with the times, and it seems like the perfect time to try something new with the more-than-50-year-old movie franchise.
