Sometimes You Need Dumb Fun: We Review Mushroom Wars 2

Mushroom Wars 2 is a real-time strategy sequel that puts you and your army of mushroom soldiers against another army of mushroom soldiers in a battle over territories. The game is set up so that each side has an equal amount of soldiers moving from the home base and other territories for you to select from. You will pick the number of units, click on a territory and send them there to conquer that space. The overall object of the game is to claim as much territory as you can and wipe your opponent off the map for total victory.

Claiming territories is pretty easy as the game works in simple mathematics. If you have 20 soldiers and they attack a hut with 10, 10 will die from each side and the remaining 10 conquer the territory. The map itself comes with several resources on each territory. Some are simplistic huts that have no strategic value beyond creating more soldiers, others are much more fortified and can help you win the battle with what's inside. A good example of this is a castle tower with a single-shot cannon on top that will fire at any enemy that comes within its line of sight.

Along the bottom of the screen, you're given a set of abilities that build up over time for a quick use, like giving them extra rage or making them faster to get to a target. These should be used sparingly as it becomes rather easy to spend them in a hurry and be left defenseless when a major horde comes rushing in. The game itself plays out fairly easy, there's no real complicated strategy to be used and it isn't trying to be the next great tactical fighter. It's a simple point-and-click objective game that relies heavily on resource management and having the most soldiers at any given time for different scenarios.

Mushroom Wars 2 is just dumb fun and a time waster. It's the kind of game anyone can learn and understand quickly, and become a master at in short order. Because of that, there isn't much depth to the game beyond difficulty level and the game can get boring after a couple hours of play. It makes for something quick to do to kill time, but not an epic adventure I'd spend hours playing.
