Vikings and Falcons Square off on a Slightly off Field

If you're watching the Minnesota Vikings take on the Atlanta Falcons today, which is currently at 14-9 Vikings in the fourth quarter, things may have looked a little off. It's not that two normally high-scoring offenses are both being held somewhat in check, but rather the look of the field they are playing on. Officials have confirmed that the hashmarks on the field at Mercedes-Benz Stadium are closer than normal for an NFL game.

The reason for the difference is that the stadium hosted the SEC Championship game last night between Georgia and Auburn… with Georgia winning… and there was insufficient time to repaint the field before the start of today's Falcon's game.

The NFL has released a statement saying that they were aware of the discrepancy and it would have no impact on the game.

Due to the flip from last night's game, the hash marks were painted closer than normal. The officials are aware and have a plan in place for marking the ball today. There will not be any issues that impact the game. Game operations in New York has also been consulted and is aware of the situation.

Falcon officials said that both teams were informed of the situation prior to the start of the game. Checking back in, the game has just gone final with the Vikings defeating the Falcons by the 14-9 score.
