Good news for fans of the classic 1972 Blaxploitation movie Super Fly who have been thinking to themselves for years: "You know what this movie needs? A remake written by the dude who adapted Watchmen for Zack Snyder." You're in luck, because Sony is doing exactly that, according to a report from Variety!

Alex Tse has been tapped to write the remake, with Joel Silver producing. The original was directed by Gordon Parks Jr. (not to be confused with Shaft director Gordon Parks Sr.), and starred Ron O'Neal as Priest, "a cocaine dealer looking to score one more super deal and retire."

The Super Fly franchise continued with a 1973 sequel, Super Fly T.N.T., and a 1990 threequel starring Nathan Purdee, Margaret Avery, and and up and coming Samuel L. Jackson: The Return of Super Fly. The original film mad $6.4 million on a $58,000 budget, making it way more profitable than Justice League. The soundtrack to the film, by Curtis Mayfield, went on to become a classic of the era and surpass the movie's gross.
