Earlier today Vanity Fair released a bunch of covers and images of our favorite characters. While it’s all pretty cool looking fans were quick to point out that a couple things didn’t add up. However, to get into what those things are we are going to have to spoil Thor: Ragnarok. So if you haven’t seen the movie yet now would be the time to check somewhere else.
So Thor has two eyes and mijonir. One of the biggest spoilers that was kept from the marketing of Thor: Ragnarok is the fact that Thor, played by Chris Hemsworth, loses an eye in the fight with Hela (Cate Blanchett). Almost right away fans were a little confused since the footage from Avengers: Infinity War that was shown at D23 and Comic-Con International had Thor with two eyes. Hemsworth confirmed back on the 4th of this month that the missing eye will carry over into the next movie.
The more we look at these images the more we think that they aren’t anything really related to Avengers: Infinity War at all and more just promo images for the 10th anniversary. Some of the characters are wearing the clothes they will wear in Infinity War but some, like Cobie Smulders as Maria Hill, Linda Cardellini as Laura Barton, and Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury are not confirmed to appear in Infinity War. In fact Jackson talked about not being in the movie back in August.
There is also the lack of beard on Chris Evans which is something he’s going to have for at least part of Infinity War. Thor having Mjölnir and Captain America having his shield again aren’t that surprising. They both lose and get those back multiple times in the comics so it stands to reason that they would get those back at some point.
We did get some details on Avengers: Infinity War and the future of the MCU but these images probably aren’t hiding any major plot points like some think. Also, I know I called them “Infinity War Portraits” earlier. That was a mistake which will be corrected.
