Pokémon Go Has New Rules For The Mewtwo Ex Raids

Niantic has announced new details about Pokémon Go's invitation-only exclusive Raids, including new criteria and rewards.

In a blog post on Pokémon Go's official site, Niantic announced that EX Raids have passed their "field tests" and have now officially launched. Invitations will still only be sent if a player has previously completed a raid at a gym where an EX Raid appears, and EX battles are most likely to appear at gyms in parks and sponsored locations (such as Sprint and Starbucks stores in the United States). So get ready to drink a lot of lattes.

Players with a high-level gym badge at a particular gym or with a large number of raid battles completed overall are more likely to receive invitations, and EX Raid battle times will now "take into account popular Raid Battle times at that Gym." If an EX Raid is canceled, players will receive Stardust and Premium Raid Passes as a consolation prize, which isn't too shabby.

Beyond the exclusive Raids, Niantic changed the overall raid battle system to offer Golden Razz Berries and a smaller chance of Potions or Revives as a reward for all raids, and a higher likelihood of Fast and Charged TMs for participating in raids tier 3 and higher. All raids will now offer Stardust, oh, and everyone's favorite useless fish Magikarp will return as a raid boss.

The launch of the exclusive raids, which are currently the only way to obtain Mewtwo in-game, was highly anticipated. So if your local Sprint store is mad busy, you know why. Raid battles were introduced to Pokémon Go earlier this year and recently had a shake-up introducing Pokémon like Sableye, Porygon 2, and Nidoking introduced as raid bosses.

Pokémon Go recently added the first wave of generation three Pokémon, with additional new Pokémon expected to start appearing next month. Currently, a challenge is underway to catch three billion Pokémon across the world. Because that's the sort of thing Pokémon Go is built for.
