The Witcher 3 Runs At 60 FPS On The Xbox One X Without Needing A Patch

Xbox One X has provided console players a way to experience The Witcher III: Wild Hunt at 60 frames per second. And it does that without needing any kind of update or patch for Xbox One X players.

According to Eurogamer, The Witcher 3 shipped with an unlocked framerate, allowing it to potentially reach 60fps, which it's now able to accomplish (with occasional dips) on newly arrived Xbox One X. However, the increased framerate comes at the cost of resolution, as the unpatched Xbox One version of The Witcher 3 runs at 900p. A later update boosted resolution to 1080p, but locked the framerate in at 30fps.

According to Xbox Wire, an Xbox One X-specific update for The Witcher 3 is on its way. The patch will boost resolution to 4K and provide "numerous visual tweaks such as higher-quality shadows, ambient occlusion & texture filtering, as well as higher resolution textures, and an all-around performance boost." The post doesn't mention any changes to the locked framerate.

So, right now, you can play The Witcher 3 in 60 fps if you don't update the game, if getting a game to 60 fps is your only goal. To have an actually enjoyable experience, you may want to take the framerate cutback with the added patches.

In related news, CD Projekt Red said it still isn't planning to make a Witcher 4, but will "probably" return to the world of The Witcher.
