The Hulk Returns (Again) in Avengers: No Surrender Next March

Marvel Editor-in-Chief Axel Alonso has hit twitter to tease something from the final act of the upcoming Avengers: No Surrender event starting in January. An upcoming return of a major character, one of the classic, original Avengers, with a piece of teaser artwork that I'd go out on a limb and say is from Kim Jacinto.

With the unmistakable green maw of the Incredible Hulk, and the word 'SMASH' in Alonso's tweet, it seems clear that Bruce Banner's jade giant will be making a return to the pages of Marvel comics. Again.

Technically the character already returned once, in the pages of Secret Empire, where he was used by HydraCap as a weapon of mass destruction. Now, in that appearance there were a number of peculiarities that never really got explained in specifics. For example, Banner spoke in a mix of upper case and lower case lettering, which traditionally was common of the Ultimate Universe characters; also, although it was implied that Hydra could only bring back the Hulk temporarily, though it was never really fully explained how he came back or how he left again.

Avengers: No Surrender

Perhaps this return will be more of a permanent one. Certainly, the original Avengers seems to be important part of the upcoming Avengers: No Surrender event, with a lot of artwork centred around the original Avengers statue with the addition of mysterious new character Voyager.

Avengers: No Surrender will be made up of the several Avengers titles currently being released, Avengers, USAvengers and Uncanny Avengers, creating a weekly event running for three months, making March presumably the final arc of the event.

What role the Incredible Hulk will have in the event remains to be seen.

Avengers: No Surrender begins in January in Avengers #675 and is written by Al Ewing, Mark Waid and Jim Zub, with art from Pepe Larraz, Kim Jacinto and Paco Diaz.
