It would appear that the reports of The Walking Dead‘s ratings “death” is at least a little exaggerated.  Showing that the popular AMC series still has some life left in it going into its eighth season, The Walking Dead returned for its 100th episode and Season 8 premiere Sunday night as the #1 show on television for an unprecedented sixth consecutive season.

Following up on initial ratings reports from earlier in the week, here are the highlights from the adjusted numbers:

●  Season premiere episode “Mercy” hit 15 million total viewers (with 9.3 million viewers in the adults 25-54 demo; and 8.8 million viewers in the adults 18-49 demo) in Nielsen live+3 ratings.

●  Talking Dead‘s live, two-hour edition from The Greek Theatre in Los Angeles delivered 5 million total viewers (with 2.9 million viewers in the adults 25-54 demo; and 2.7 million viewers in the adults 18-49 Demo) in Nielsen live+3 ratings.

“There are only a precious few television programs that can deliver urgent viewing and large, diverse audiences. One hundred episodes after Rick first met Morgan, The Walking Dead continues to do both. Thank you to the engaged fans around the globe and to Robert Kirkman, Scott M. Gimple, Chris Hardwick and a ton of other walkers, talkers and content hawkers that make it all possible. To our friends, fans and the entire #TWDFamily, welcome to the Century Club.”

– Charlie Collier, president of AMC, SundanceTV and AMC Studios

●  The Walking Dead‘s 100th episode is now the top telecast this season among viewers in both the adults 18-49 demo and adults 25-54 demo.

●  The Walking Dead premiere also yielded 1.4 million+ views across all of AMC’s digital platforms as well as Xfinity, nearly doubling the digital audience of the seventh season finale in Nielsen live+3 ratings; and increasing on the mid-season seven premiere’s ratings by 60% in Nielsen live+3 ratings.

●  From a social media standpoint, The Walking Dead is the # 1 most social series for the 2017-2018 season-to-date: 1.5 million people generated 2.5 million social media interactions across Facebook and Twitter on the night of the Season 8 premiere. A livestream of the red carpet arrivals at the premiere event generated nearly 7.2 million views across social platforms that included Facebook Live, Twitter, and Xbox.

The Walking Dead‘s eighth season continues Sunday night at 9 p.m. ET on AMC.
