Venom Will Be Brought To Life Using Performance Capture Technology

Now that production on Venom has finally begun we're starting to get a little more information about it. We got a behind-the-scenes picture with the announcement production had started and now we have a new confirmation, possibly, from an unlikely source. In an interview with Yahoo Movies UK actor Andy Serkis was talking about performance capture technology and how it is evolving.

"Acting is acting, and the more actors – like Steve Zahn… and Karin Konoval who plays Maurice in 'War For The Planet of the Apes' – the more A-list actors that come on board, like Mark Rylance playing The BFG, or a lot of actors in the new Marvel films… Tom Hardy is playing a new character using performance capture. It all points up 'what is the nature of acting?' and there is no difference between acting wearing a costume and make up, or wearing a motion capture suit. That's plain and simple, it just needs awarding bodies to understand that."

While he doesn't mention Venom by name considering that Venom is the only movie Hardy is currently working on the leap seems pretty logical. Performance capture technology is probably the way to go considering Venom's mouth and monster like appearance. Performance capture means they really get to lean into the "monster" part of Venom and can make him look like something truly otherworldly.

Venom, directed by Ruben Fleischer, will star Tom Hardy. There are other rumored, but not confirmed, cast members which include Riz Ahmed, Jenny Slate, Reid Scott, and Michelle Williams. It will be released on October 5th, 2018.
