A Quick Romp Through 'LEGO Dimensions' With Beetlejuice
Last month we got ourselves a copy of the Beetlejuice addition to LEGO Dimensions, as he was part of Wave 9's additions to the game. We took our time to give him a spin around their worlds and here are a few of the things we enjoyed and disliked.
First off, this Beetlejuice is a mix between the classic version from the '80s film with Michael Keaton and the '90s cartoon series. We say that because there's certain things the character does in the game that comes from both. There are elements from the film like the hammer hands that you only see in the movie, and then his bendy-stretchy body which you see a lot more of in the series. His primary story is set in the film, as you can see him in the afterlife waiting office and messing around with the tiny town in the attic that the Maitland's had created. The model also serves as the town you'll be visiting as part of his storyline in the game along with other figures you decide to add.
The primary mode of transportation you have in the game is the Saturn Sandworm, which at first glance makes zero sense as they are one of the creatures Beetlejuice fears and eventually gets devoured by at the end of the film. You can physically reconstruct the pieces to be a Spooky Spider and a Haunted Vaccum, as they show up in the game. But unless you like tearing the piece apart and rebuilding it each time, I'd stick with the sandworm. You also get the most out of the worm as it bounces around and has a sonic siren that can help you out. The other two forms have some abilities, but the worm is the most fun.
I think Beetlejuice was a nice addition to the game. Like a lot of the characters that get added in, he shares powers and abilities you can find in others, so really what you're getting is an additional adventure with a new character skin, along with the actual LEGO pieces for both him and his ride. If you're a fan of Beetlejuice then this is a must-have, but if you're looking at other characters first, he can be held off on for a bit until you get what you need.
