Episode Of 'American Horror Story: Cult' Re-Edited After Vegas Shooting

Reports say that an upcoming episode of American Horror Story: Cult has been recut to edit an upcoming mass shooting sequence. TVLine is reporting that the piece was re-edited in the wake of the Las Vegas shooting on October 1st.

The news came out of the series' panel at the New Yorker Festival 2017, where creator Ryan Murphy said they chose to re-edit the October 10th episode, Mid-Western Assassin, where an eerily similar scenario takes place. The shooting has not been cut entirely from the episode, but the scene has been made much less graphic with the new cuts. Most of the violence now takes place off camera.

Murphy said during the conversation:

"I believe I have the right to air it, but I also believe in victims' rights. I believe that now is probably not the week to have something explosive or incendiary in the culture, because someone who was affected might watch that, and it could trigger something or make them feel upset. So our decision was to re-edit it, and I felt that that was the right move."

This is not the only show affected by the Vegas tragedy. The panel for Marvel's The Punisher was cancelled this weekend at the New York Comic Con, and it's rumored that the show was planned to be released after the panel but is now delayed.

Other shows have reacted similarly to tragedies. In July, NBC postponed an episode of The Carmichael Show after the baseball field shooting in Virginia. The Last Ship's debut was delayed after the Pulse nightclub tragedy, and probably one of the earliest examples was the delay of the series 24 after the events of 9/11.
