Keeping Out Of The Deep End: A Quick Review Of 'Swim Out'

Swim Out is a random title that I came across at E3, but it wasn't in any booth, it was a random card I picked up from a lone table against a lone wall. I wasn't sure what to expect when I finally got it, but I was pleasantly surprised to see what it was. This is a puzzle game where you are a swimmer in a pool who needs to navigate your way around obstacles in the pool. These mostly come in the form of swimmers with red caps on their heads as you are identified with the blue one. Every move you make is followed up by one from another swimmer who has a set pattern they follow. You'll need to figure out the patterns and obstacles in order to get where you need to go.

Along the way, you'll be given other obstacles that don't move or objects that can help you wind your way through the system. A good example of this is a beach ball that, when thrown at an enemy swimmer, will cause them to freeze for several moves. A lot of the levels you run into have at least two ways to work around getting to the end, but most of them only contain one solution, which you'll need to figure out over the course of the game.

I quite enjoyed Swim Out, as it is a simple puzzler that doesn't require a ton of figuring out, but the puzzles themselves will keep you on your toes. The game is also available for iOS and Android, so in case you're not having fun with it on a PC, you can get it as an app as a happy time waster.
