'Friday The 13th: The Game' Will Have No Story Arc In Single Player

On the surface, it seems like a no-brainer. Friday The 13th: The Game is based off a horror film series that has memorable characters, famous locations, a plot that gets more convoluted as you continue through each sequel; it's practically made to be turned into a video game. Much the same way Rockstar took a stab at The Warriors, or Atari with 2009's Ghostbusters, or Rare with Goldeneye 64. So when it was announced by IllFonic and gun Media that Friday The 13th would be getting a single-player mode, naturally we assumed it would be following the film series. Unfortunately, we were wrong.

The developers posted a quick note about the single-player option on the game's official website, calling the mode "Challenges". The short version: you'll be tasked with completing challenges like finding a specific counselor, or killing everyone in a short amount of time, or killing everyone through level hazards rather than with your weapon or bare hands. None of it will have a story attached beyond the idea that the counselors are AI who have no idea you exist, as they are just getting to camp and settling in for the night. The Challenges mode won't kick in until the winter, provided IllFonic stays on schedule with all of their updates, so it's possible this could change between now and then. But for the time being, it doesn't look like you'll be reliving Jason's killing spree scene for scene.
