You Can Help This Comic Store Stay Open And Promote Literacy

Comic book store Heroes Are Here, of Goldsboro, North Carolina in its 31st year of operation, is running a GoFundMe account that has a two-fold purpose.

First, it will help assist the store through a few hardships, including an unexpected increase in rent. But the main benefit will be to help the struggling readers in the area who need help with literacy, as well as those serving in the military.

With recent reports showing that the state of North Carolina is struggling in raising the reading level of students as well as some adults, they plan to put comics into the hands of local schools and literacy centers to assist with this, since research shows that comics are a great asset to increasing reading.

Also being based in a military town, they would like to send comic book care packages to the active military members to give them a taste of home so they know they are being supported.

They have a large backstock collection to help with this initiative and would love to spread the love of comics and hopefully generate some new readers in the process.

For every donation, Heroes Are Here is going to donate a comic book — they have over a 100,000 and would love to donate them all — to either the local Boys and Girls club (a literacy center), or send a book overseas to military members. There will be weekly updates of the packing of the comics, and we will update with pictures and videos of their dropoffs.
