Rolling Down The 'Super Impossible Road' At PAX West

It isn't often you get encouraged to cheat, but that's part of the game in Super Impossible Road, which I found in the Indiecade Megabooth at PAX West this year. At its core, this is a racing game from Wonderful Lasers Inc. where you're simply a large ball that spins forward. Aside from steering, there are only two controls: speed and jump. The goal like any racing game is to make it to the end first, but as you can see from the photos below, that's a near impossible task as you are all riding down a thin rail with no borders to keep you safe. So what to do?

Simply put, you jump off the track and down to the parts below to get ahead of your enemies. You can stay in the air for five seconds at a time without hitting the track, but you need to hit the track within that time or you'll be sent back to the last checkpoint you hit. You are highly encouraged to take shortcuts in order to succeed, but there's a lot of experimentation along the way that may or may not pay off in the end. Super Impossible Road is currently in early access on steam for four-player local racing, with expansions for a career mode and eight-player online coming soon. No word on a console release just yet.
