The Big Fat Fictions Brian Bendis Has Been Telling You In Infamous Iron Man (SPOILERS)

Comic book writers are liars. It's their job, at least if they are writing fiction. The clue is in the name, "fiction". Something that is not true. And sometimes it spills out into real life as well, when promoting their comic books. Even to each other. Why give the game away when you can distract, divert, palm the plot while you are telling everyone that there is nothing up your sleeve.

Take Brian Bendis on The Maker, the Ultimate Reed Richards, appearing in Infamous Iron Man, after he was brought into the Marvel Universe at the end of Secret Wars, on some mission from the Molecule Man.

The character makes reference to his appearance in Infamous Iron Man, over in Ultimates2 as well.

And in interviews, Brian Bendis talked about the process behind bringing in the Ultimate Reed Richards into the comic.

Talk about the things just kind of falling into your lap. 10 years ago we make Reed Richards a bad guy. Now he ends up in this universe and then, oh my God, Doctor Doom is set to try to redeem himself, to try to pull himself out of the biggest hole anyone in literature has ever dug for themselves. To then have his biggest antagonist, which is Reed Richards, on a darker path than he ever was is pretty exciting and it feels like it's just fallen in my lap. We did engineer all the ideas that got us there, but we weren't engineering them towards the goal of evil Reed versus good Doom, but once the pieces are there, you'd be an idiot not to grab them and take them and see where they take you…. It was not the plan until I sat down to outline the ideas for a Doctor Doom series, that you go, "Oh my God, Reed Richards is running around as a bad guy." If I didn't do it, everyone would be furious. You have to do it. It's his goal to fit in there.

Except today's Infamous Iron Man #10 by Brian Bendis, Alex Maleev and Matt Hollingsworth, puts the kibosh on that one. It's not the Maker and it never was.

It's not the Ultimate Reed Richards and it never was. Except for when he was in Ultimates2, then he was. And remembering messing with Doctor Doom, um, let's skate over that one. As to who it actually is?

Voldemort, clearly.

No, sorry, that's a lie as well.

Infamous Iron Man #10 is published today.
