The UNSC Is Glowing: A Review Of Halo's Master Chief From Pixel Pals

A couple weeks ago, a brand new Pixel Pals toy made it to my doorstep from PDP Gaming, which I totally wasn't expecting but I couldn't have been happier to see. The next one in the series, which went up for pre-order a few weeks ago, is Master Chief from the Halo series. Naturally, I immediately popped open the box to see what was inside and test this guy out.

Now for a side-by-side comparison to a previous figure I receive in the mail, you can see he looks almost like Ken from the Street Fighter series. There are some differences, however, as Master Chief is a pixel shorter in some areas and a bit wider overall. I believe this was done more to accommodate the helmet and suit design and make him look more like he does from the game than just a random figure fitting a specific mold. It's a nice aesthetic people don't see too often in designs, but he is different than some other Pixel Pals designs.

Like all Pixel Pals, he runs off of two AAA batteries with a small snap panel on the back and a simple on/off switch. I will say his design overall with the batteries inside makes him lighter than a few of the sets I've received in the past from Batman and Street Fighter. Whether this is them perfecting their design or simply being a fluke is kind of hard to tell, but it was cool.

As you can see from the picture below, Master Chief looks fantastic lit up with two different shades of green making up most of his armor along with a black outline to define it. The best detail is on the helmet as they faded the pixels in the upper right corner and one of the lower left blocks to give him that Halo shine to the visor. You look right at him and you can tell he is Master Chief.

Overall, this is a nice addition to the Pixel Pals lineup, but I would like to see the Arbiter to complement him rather than just being a one-off design for the series. It's nice having Master Chief on my desk, but I feel if you're going to design something from an IP as iconic as Halo, you should have an enemy with him. Hopefully, they'll add him in later on. You can purchase Master Chief for $15 when he goes on sale on September 12th.
