Alamo Drafthouse Announces "Clown Screening" Of 'It'

Does anyone remember a few months ago when the Alamo Drafthouse chain of theaters announced some women-only Wonder Woman screenings? And the entire internet lost its freaking mind for entire weekend and then some? I certainly do, because I spent that weekend getting called every name in the book, but I also remember when people were trying to convince the Drafthouse not to do the screening. This comment was one of my favorites:

Turns out the Drafthouse was very serious when they said they liked the clown idea, because they actually announced a clown screening of IT.

Alamo Drafthouse Announces "Clown Screening" Of 'It'

"For this special screening of IT, all attendees should arrive dressed as a clown in order to attend. Please arrive early and join us in the Barrel O' Fun beginning at 5:30pm for an IT pre-party where we will have face-painters available for clown "touch-ups", a photo booth, raffles for prizes, and other terrifying merriment. Please arrive in your own Pennywise best and be ready to float with us."

Can we not float, please?

The fact that they decided to go ahead and actually do this just shows that the Drafthouse is there to have fun with its themed screenings as it always has. The women-only Wonder Woman screenings didn't end the world, and we've all gone on to see movies ever since. Now, because someone decided that girls can't have their fun, they threw out this suggestion as a joke. Thank you, dude on the internet, I hope the entire city of Austin is prepared for what is going to happen.

As with all themed screenings at the Drafthouse chain, they continue to add screenings as they sell out. Maybe if this one goes viral, too, other chains outside of Austin will pick up on it.

As for this screening? An entire room of people dressed up like clowns seeing the modern remake of the story that made an entire generation afraid of clowns? I'll float too…somewhere far away from that.
