Pokémon Gold & Silver Will Be Getting Special Physical Releases

A cool bit of Pokémon news for fans of the Gold and Silver series, as special physical editions will be released for the Nintendo 3DS on September 22nd. The news comes off the heels of Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon being released later this year as well, but don't get too excited about this "physical" release as both games will be coming with a bit of a twist, as you can see in the Tweet from Nintendo of Europe below.

That's right, the boxes are going to have one thing and one thing only inside of them: A download code for the eShop to get the games. Honest opinion: that's a bit cheesy and as well as a ripoff. You're paying what will probably be the full game price for what will most likely be a slip of paper or a card inside a box. That's just as absurd as when people were buying Nintendo Switch Splatoon 2 boxes with nothing inside them just for the status symbol in Japan. If you're going to sell a digital copy of the game, don't just make people buy a useless box, put a cartridge inside. Only time will tell if people actually spend the extra cash to buy an almost empty box or if they'll save some cash and do direct download instead.
