How Samuel L. Jackson Found Out He'll Have Two Eyes In 'Captain Marvel'

In the age of instant reaction journalism it's not surprising that sometimes actors and directors find out information about projects from social media. We already know that happens in politics so why would the entertainment world be any different? It turns out it isn't and that is very apparent when Fandango did an interview with Samuel L. Jackson. He's currently doing press for The Hitman's Bodyguard and when he was asked about his role his Captain Marvel he did not reveal that he found out he was in the movie from social media and reporting (sorry other websites). What he did say is that he heard that he was going to have two eyes in the movie, hence learning when the movie is taking place, from reporting. He went on to talk about how it'll be easier to learn his lines.

Samuel L. Jackson

"It will be easier to learn my lines. It's one of those weird things I figured out. The first day I shot as Nick Fury, with one eye, I couldn't remember my lines. I was tired because we were coming from somewhere and I thought it was fatigue, and I realized I learned my lines with two eyes so I started blocking my eye … it's a stupid kind of thing, but it totally works."

His co-star Ryan Reynolds mentions visual memory which makes sense. If you're trying to remember something you've read but then you've lost one of those eyes you used originally it would make sense that it would mess with how you remember the lines. It's an interesting little hurtle that Jackson hasn't addressed before now. We haven't seen Nick Fury since Avengers: Age of Ultron so seeing a younger version of him in Captain Marvel could be a lot of fun.

Captain Marvel, directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, and will also star Samuel L. Jackson. The film is set for release on March 8th, 2019.
